A Newbie’s Guide To Buying Their First Smartphone

If you are planning to buy your first smartphone, but don’t exactly know how to judge the quality and capabilities of a phone, then this post is for you. Below, we look at six features of a smartphone you should be aware of so as to purchase the best one for your needs.

Display

The first thing to look for is the display of the smartphone. Ideally, the display must look bright, colorful and sharp. If it does not meet these criteria, then it’s better to avoid the smartphone.  Also, check the pixel density of the screen and make sure that it is at least 300 dpi. Plus, you also need to consider the size of the display. When checking the phone, hold it in your hands and try to determine the phone size you are comfortable holding.

Operating System

In terms of the operating system, you basically have two options – Android or the iOS. Both have a large number of users who swore by the usability and power of these operating systems. As such, the choice of OS essentially comes down to your preference.  Android is known for being highly customizable, while iOS sets certain limitations in usage. As such, if you like the OS to be flexible enough to accommodate your personalization needs, then Android is the way to go.

Processor

The processor can be considered as the ‘brain’ of the device. And the important things to look out for in a processor include the clock speed and the number of cores. Ideally, you must go for smartphones with at least 4 cores. And if you can buy one with 8 cores, then better. The clock speed is essentially a measurement of how fast each core can process the information. A simple rule of thumb will be to choose only phones with the highest clock speed.

RAM

In addition to the processor, another component that is equally important for the smooth operation of the phone is the RAM. The more amount of RAM you have, the more smoothly the various applications will run.  While a RAM of 2GB would be sufficient for the regular guy, we recommend that you buy phones only with at least 4GB of RAM.

Storage

When looking for storage, go for a phone which has a minimum of 16 GB available. It must also offer expandability through microSD card. If it does not, then you will be better off not buying it.

In addition to the above, you must also look into the battery life and connectivity options offered by the smartphone.
